A young woman’s body was discovered stuffed inside a trolley bag near a railway bridge on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, the police said, adding that while the victim was yet to be identified, an initial examination suggested she was strangled.
The body was found after passersby spotted the torn, blue trolley bag near the Chandapura railway bridge in Hebbagodi in Bengaluru Rural district and alerted the police. The Surya City police arrived at the scene and sent the body for a postmortem to determine the exact cause and time of death.
According to a senior police officer, the woman is believed to be between 18 and 20 years of age. No identification documents were found on her person, and it is suspected that the killer(s) may have thrown the bag from a moving train as it passed over the bridge, the police added.
“There are no injuries on her body. It looks like she might have been strangled. We have circulated her photos to all police stations across the city,” a police official said.
According to the police, the trolley bag was first noticed by a few local ragpickers who opened it to check if there were any valuables inside. However, when they saw the woman’s face, they fled from the spot, the police said.
The Surya City police have registered a murder case, and an investigation is on, officials said.
