A 29-year-old woman was found dead inside a hotel room in Central Delhi’s Nabi Karim area on Sunday morning. She had been murdered.
Soon after the crime came to light, police arrested the accused — her friend — within two hours.
According to the police, a PCR call was received at 9.47 am. The caller, a staff member of a hotel on Arakashan Road in Paharganj, said that a couple had booked a room and stayed the night. In the morning, the woman was found lying dead in the bathroom while the man was missing.
Police rushed to the spot. A preliminary enquiry revealed that the couple had checked in on Saturday at 4.15 pm. The man was seen leaving the hotel premises alone in the morning.
“The couple had ordered pizza and lassi around 6 pm on Saturday, which was served to their room by the hotel staff. As per the identification documents submitted at the hotel reception, they were identified as Sachin (31) and Sarika (29),” said Nidhin Valsan, DCP, Central.
“Preliminary findings suggest the woman was strangled with a drawstring,” the DCP said.
A crime team was called to the scene, which conducted a thorough inspection. Photographs were taken, and relevant exhibits were seized from the spot. The body was taken into custody and preserved at the mortuary for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death, said police.

A case of murder was then registered, and the accused was taken into custody.
Police said during questioning, Sachin claimed he and the woman were in a relationship, and he suspected she was having an affair. They quarreled over this when they met, and he then beat her before allegedly strangling her to death, said police.
