The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams are one of the toughest in India. While thousands of candidates toil away each year to clear the exams, a boy from Bihar skipped the queue to become an “Indian Police Service (IPS) officer” at the age of 18, without ever appearing for the civil services exams. Mithilesh Kumar is now in the spotlight after purchasing an IPS officer’s uniform and a pistol, passing himself off as a legitimate officer.

However, his charade didn’t last long. Kumar flaunted his fake uniform and firearm, leading to his eventual arrest. According to jansatta.com, the incident occurred in Bihar’s Jamui district, where a man named Manoj Singh allegedly duped Kumar, charging him Rs 2 lakh under the false promise of “making him’ an IPS officer. Singh even sent Kumar to a nearby police station in full uniform.

A viral video captured local police escorting the fake officer to the Sikandara police station. One officer can be heard sarcastically saying, “Come, sir, IPS. Come to Sikandara Police Station,” as Kumar hands over his pistol to the authorities.

The video was shared on X by the National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB), an NGO, with the caption: “In Jamui, Bihar, an 18-year-old boy became an IPS officer without passing the UPSC. When the police asked him, he said, ‘I am an IPS officer.’ Watch the video to see what happened next.”

With over a million views, the viral video garnered numerous reactions on the platform. A user wrote, “Well point to be questioned is “How did a 18yr old procure ₹12 lakhs?” Another user commented, “Indian Police only job is to record innocent in crime and uploading on internet, rather than catching actual criminal. Shame on you.”

“Police should focus on identifying and apprehending the main accused who is deceiving innocent individuals,” a third user wrote.
