‘Their son was at home’: man caught carrying his wife’s dead body on bike after murdering her in Pune

A 28-year-old man who allegedly murdered his wife by strangling her and was carrying her body in a gunny bag on a bike was caught by the Pune police in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to the Pune police, the man killed his 26-year-old wife over a domestic dispute when their eight-year-old son was home. They have identified the man as Rakesh Ramnayak Nisar and his wife as Babita, both natives of Uttar Pradesh and current residents of the Dhayari area of Pune.

A police officer said Nisar was caught on the road from Bhumkar Bridge to Swaminarayan Temple.

“Around 1.30 am on Tuesday, a police team on the night patrolling round spotted a man carrying a gunny bag on the footboard of his bike. The patrolling team stopped him and started asking him questions. It was at this point that he started running. He was caught by the team, and the gunny bag was examined,” said Atul Bhos, Inspector, Nanded City Police Station.

“Initial questioning revealed that the man murdered his wife by strangling her over their domestic dispute. He was carrying her body on his bike, possibly to dispose it. He has been placed under arrest and has been charged with murder,” Bhos added.

The police said that the family hails from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and moved to Pune to earn a living. Nisar works as a labourer. “He has an eight-year-old son who was home when the incident took place sometime around midnight. A probe is on to establish the exact time frame and clearer motive of the murder,” said an officer.

A case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder, has been registered at Nanded City police station.
