A juvenile gym caretaker was stabbed in South East Delhi’s Tughlakabad Extension in the early hours of Saturday, according to police officials. Two juvenile suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
The stabbing was reported via a police control room (PCR) call following which officers rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the responding team assisted PCR personnel in transporting the injured victim to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remains in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit under close observation, the police said.
The victim was on his way to open a local gym where he works as a caretaker when the attack happened. “He was stabbed by the two juveniles over personal enmity as they had quarrelled amongst themselves in the past,” said Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East).
An FIR was registered under Sections 109(a) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Govindpuri Police Station. Medical-legal documentation was completed, and a manhunt was launched for the suspects. Both accused were located and taken into custody shortly thereafter.
Police identified the assailants as a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, both residents of Tughlakabad Extension. The elder had dropped out after completing Class 9 at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, while the younger is currently a Class 10 student at the same institution.
During the course of the investigation, the dagger used in the attack as well as the clothing worn by the suspects at the time of the incident were recovered. The police said that further investigation is on to establish the full scope and motive behind the attack.
