No Internet connection when a Metro is underground will soon be a thing of the past with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) signing an agreement with Beckhaul Digital Technologies Private Limited to install and maintain a high-speed optical fiber network along Metro routes.
The DMRC said in a statement on Friday that the project will involve laying 700 km of fiber optic cables across all Metro corridors, including the Airport Express Line. The rollout will take place in phases, with the Pink and Magenta Lines being the first to go live.
“This will be done in around a month. The rest of the network is expected to be ready within six months,” said a DMRC official, adding that the cables would provide connectivity to Internet service providers.
The new fiber network will serve as the backbone for high-speed Internet, benefitting telecom operators, Internet service providers, data centres, and smart city initiatives, the DMRC said in a statement.
