The senior police inspector of MIDC police station has been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty on Sunday after 40 bargirls were found allegedly dancing and indulging in inappropriate activities in an Andheri bar raided by crime branch on Sunday early hours.
Rajiv Chavan, senior inspector of the MIDC police station has been suspended by Paramjeet Singh Dahiya, additional commissioner of police, West region after crime branch carried out a massive raid at the Night Lover Orchestra Bar in Marol, Andheri.
The raid was jointly carried out by the officers from property cell and the crime branch unit-2, sources said.
More than 40 bar girls girls were found at the bar, which is a gross violation of the rules and laws that permits such orcheshtra bars to operate.
Based on crime branch’s action an offence was registered at the MIDC Police station against the bar runner and the head of MIDC police station (Chavan) was suspended as the bar was operating in his jurisdiction, confirmed Dahiya.
A departmental inquiry has been initiated against Chavan.
Another police officer said that finding 40 girls in a bar during raid is not a small thing and it shows that the bar owner was not afraid of law enforcers and was fearlessly operating his illegal business.
Such strict action would also send a strong message to other police station heads to be vigilant and keep a strict check on such illegal activities in establishments under their respective jurisdiction, the officer added.
