The chargesheet in the Renukaswamy murder case is in its final stages and will be submitted to the court in a day or two, B Dayananda, Police Commissioner, Bengaluru, said on Tuesday. Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa is among the many accused in the case.
Thoogudeepa was arrested with his friend Pavithra Gowda and 11 others on June 11 in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a Chitradurga resident who was a fan of the actor. According to the police, Renukaswamy was murdered as he had allegedly sent abusive messages and photos to Gowda on Instagram.
Police chief Dayananda said that they have received the reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory and the chargesheet will be filed in a day or two.
Seventeen people have been arrested in the murder case so far and all are presently in judicial custody.
Thoogudeepa was shifted to the Ballari central prison following allegations that he was getting special treatment inside the jail in Bengaluru after a photo and a video became viral on social media. In the photo, Thoogudeepa is purportedly seen sitting on a chair with a cigarette and a mug in hand along with rowdy sheeter Nagaraj J alias Wilson Garden Naga, Srinivas alias Kulla Seena and others, on the lawns of the jail. A video of the actor purportedly speaking to a person over a video call also surfaced online. Nine prison officials were suspended after the controversy.
Apart from Thoogudeepa, some of the other jailed suspects in Renukaswamy’s murder were also moved to prisons in different districts. While Pawan K, Raghavendra and Nandish were moved to Mysuru jail, Jagadish and Laxman were shifted to Shivamogga jail, and Dhanraj D, Vinay V, Nagaraju, and Pradosh were moved to Dharwad, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Belagavi jails, respectively.
