The restoration work of the historical Jahaz Haveli of Diwan Todar Mal in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib will be carried out in its original form by the Diwan Todar Mal Virasti Foundation. Diwan Todal Mal was a 17th-century merchant who purchased the land for the cremation of the younger Sahibzadas of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, namely Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fatehgarh Singh, along with Mata Gujri after their martyrdom.
Punjab minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond inaugurated the restoration work Sunday. Sond said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had directed that whatever work was to be done by the Punjab government for this cause should be done on a priority basis, and the foundation should not face any kind of problem.
The minister said that until this work is completed, the state is always ready to help whenever the foundation needs anything. “After the completion of this work, this foundation will also be contacted for the conservation of other heritage buildings in Punjab,” the minister added.
The minister further stated that this project was very costly, but members of the foundation living abroad have taken on this responsibility and made a commendable effort. He thanked the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and all stakeholders involved in this work for their cooperation.
