Pune woman booked after her pet dog bites pedestrian

The Pune pet owner was booked under Section 291 (negligent conduct with respect to animals) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Pune city police booked a woman after her pet dog allegedly attacked and bit a pedestrian in Budhwar Peth in the early hours of Wednesday.

The police have identified the pet owner as Manisha Malegaonkar, a resident of Budhwar Peth. They said Niraj Prakash Patil, 23, a resident of Akurdi, lodged the First Information Report (FIR) in this case at the Vishrambag Police Station.

According to the police, the complainant was passing through the lane behind Ratan Talkies in Budhwar Peth when a dog allegedly jumped on him, and bit him on his waist at around 4.45 am Wednesday.

He approached the police and filed a complaint, based on which they booked Malegaonkar under Section 291 (negligent conduct with respect to animals) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). As per the FIR, the Malegaonkar allegedly failed to take essential measures to prevent the pet dog from causing harm to others.
