A 51-year-old man identified as Kuldeep Singh, who earlier served as the personal assistant (PA) to former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Lok Sabha MP late Jagdev Singh Talwandi, was Friday late killed in cold blood in Ludhiana.

A group of assailants pulled the victim out of his car at Missing Link-2 on Dhandra road, and attacked him multiple times with swords and other sharp-edged weapons. The entire incident was captured in a video by a passer-by.

According to the FIR registered by the Ludhiana police, Dharampal Singh of Khandoor village told the police that his cousin Kuldeep Singh was commuting from his Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar of Ludhiana towards Jain Mandir on Dhandra road. He was driving the car. Dharampal said that on the way when Kuldeep reached near Jaita ji Chowk, a group of four-five unidentified assailants intercepted his vehicle, pulled him out of his car and opened merciless attack on him with swords and other sharp-edged weapons. Dharampal added that he too was passing from the spot when he witnessed the incident and soon the assailants fled in a Swift vehicle. By the time Dharampal approached Kuldeep to help him, he had already died.

Sub-inspector Avneet Kaur, SHO, Sadar police station, said that the victim had returned from Canada more than a year ago and was currently working as a property dealer. “Many years ago, he also served as the PA of former MP Jagdev Singh Talwandi. Nothing could be said as of now as to what was the motive behind the murder,” said S-I Kaur.

Sources, however, said that Kuldeep Singh was recently embroiled in a property dispute which might be the reason behind the fatal attack.

The police said that an FIR for murder has been registered against four-five unidentified assailants under sections 103 (murder), 191(3) (rioting with deadly weapon causing death) and 190 (unlawful assembly) of BNS at Sadar police station on the statement of Dharampal Singh.
