The Supreme Court Wednesday relaxed the bail condition of Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, booked for his contentious social media post on Operation Sindoor and said he could write articles and opinions except on the sub judice matter, news agency PTI reported.
The apex court questioned Haryana SIT over seizing Mahmudabad’s electronic gadgets for probe and stated that team misdirected itself.
Asking it to state the line of its investigation in the case, the court directed the police team to confine probe to 2 FIRs, and wrap it up within four more weeks.
Mahmudabad was arrested on May 18 days after a show-cause notice issued to him by the Haryana State Commission for Women over his remarks allegedly disparaging women officers in the Indian armed forces. Three days later, he was granted interim bail, which was extended a week later.
The court had also restrained him from making any online posts or writing any article or deliver speech on the issue which is the subject matter of the case, or making any comment on the (Pahalgam) terrorist attack on Indian soil or India’s counter response to it.
