At least 40 people were relocated to safer areas in Surat district’s Bardoli taluka, bringing the total relocations in the state to 3,703 since June 1 till Sunday even as heavy rain continues to lash Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of very heavy rainfall warning for Navsari and Valsad, for Monday, putting these two districts under an orange alert. The state is expected to receive heavy rainfall till July 11, according to IMD.
Dolvan in Tapi received the highest amount of rain at 155 mm (6.1 inch) and Bardoli in Surat at 125 mm up to 6 pm on Sunday.
Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari , Bhavnagar, Amreli and Botad districts continued to receive heavy rain on Sunday.
“The entire Surat district has been on alert for a day. Nearly 40 people were relocated on Sunday,” Surat Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi told The Indian Express.
As per the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), Vyara and Dolvan in Tapi recorded 141 mm and 135 mm, respectively while Paslana in Surat receded 125 mm and Kaprada in Valsad receded 123 mm within the last 24 hours ending Sunday evening.
In the last 24 hours till Sunday evening, Bhiloda in Aravalli received 167 mmm (6.6 inch) rain even as 204 talukas of 33 districts received an average of 26.65 mm rain.
Ahmedabad city also received continuous rainfall, recording an average of 26 mm, starting Sunday afternoon till late evening. Till July 10, the IMD has also issued a warning against light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface wind 30-40 kmph and, with light to moderate rain across the state.
