Nagpur BJP MLC Parinay Fuke and his family members have been named in a domestic cruelty case after his widowed sister-in-law Priya lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Ambazari police station last month, accusing them of fraud and harassment.

“A case under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which addresses domestic cruelty against women, has been filed against the parents of MLC Parinay Fuke. Additionally, the FIR includes Parinay and his wife, as alleged by the wife of Parinay’s late brother, Sanket,” Vinayak Golhe, Police Inspector, Ambazari police station, told The Indian Express.

The FIR registered on August 26 names Parinay, 43, his father Ramesh, 72, his mother Rama, 67, his wife Dr Parineeta, 40, and Nitin Fuke, 40. Parinay has also been accused of threatening Priya, Golhe said.

According to Priya’s complaint, her troubles began after her husband Sanket Fuke passed away in 2022. Sanket had undergone a kidney transplant before the wedding but the truth was hidden from her, the complaint said. Following his demise, she was asked to surrender her gold ornaments and Sanket’s assets were transferred to her in-laws’ names, the complaint added. It also mentioned that over Rs 3.30 crore was transferred from Priya’s bank account by her in-laws after forging her signature.

Parinay denied the allegations against him. “There were frequent conflicts between Priya and my brother Sanket from the start of their marriage, and arguments between her and my parents were also common. I made efforts to address these issues and spoke with both my parents and Priya about them. Despite this, Priya has now filed a complaint against me, accusing me of betrayal,” Parinay told The Indian Express.

“I had asked her to resolve family issues privately but she chose to file a complaint under Section 498A instead and made things public. We are aware that many cases under (Section) 498A are often fake. While the dispute is between Priya and my parents, she has unjustly dragged me and my wife into this matter,” he added.

According to Priya, who has been staying with her parents after Saket’s demise, the case was watered down. “I believe that this case needs to be filed under the appropriate sections of the IPC, which is being avoided,” she told The Indian Express. Priya said that her in-laws have filed for custody of her children. “I am alive and capable of caring for my kids; why would I surrender their custody to their grandparents? My life has been overturned…,” she added.

She alleged that after Sanket’s death, the Fukes began transferring his property into their names, sold it without informing her, and even froze his bank accounts. “I was tired of waiting around and hence, I decided to do what was right,” she said.
