A 32-YEAR-OLD man who claimed to be an IAS officer from Bihar and also stayed at a customs guest house posing as an employee of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was arrested by the Mumbai police on Sunday. Singh claimed that he wanted to become a civil servant and has attempted the UPSC exams in the past as well.
Officers said that so far it is not clear what accused Chandramohan Singh’s motive was, they have found some fake ID cards on his person following which they have placed him under arrest.
An officer said that based on a tip-off on Saturday, that a person was using fake documents to pose as an IAS officer, they tracked down Singh outside a hotel in Malad in a car with a driver.
When questioned about his identity, he claimed to be an IAS officer posted as assistant director (security) in MHA. His car had the ‘Bharat Sarkar’ sticker on it that government employees use.
The police checked his pockets and found another document which claimed he was with the Ministry of Defence.
The police then detained him for questioning and he eventually confessed that he was not an IAS officer and the documents were forged, an official said.
The police registered an FIR against him at the Malad police station and placed him under arrest. He was produced before court on Sunday and remanded to police custody.
