A 22-year-old third year MBBS student from Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Hospital died by suicide on Sunday night.
According to police, Rohan Ramfer Prajapati allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his hostel room in the Sir J J Hospital premises on Sunday night.
The incident came to the fore when his roommate Ritesh Vishwakarma came to the hostel room around 10.50pm on Sunday. Prajapati was rushed to the hospital’s emergency section, but was declared dead.
The Sir JJ Marg police were informed about the incident.
During preliminary inquiry, it was found that Prajapati was depressed due to the financial condition of his family and the pressure from studies. Police have not come across anything that points towards foul play, said an officer.
Police are also going to record the statement of his family members, friends and classmates. Police have registered an accidental death report and are further investigating the case.
