Ahead of Sawan Shivratri on July 23 and in view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, the Gurgaon traffic police issued a special advisory for heavy vehicles from Monday to Wednesday.
Heavy vehicles have been asked to stick to the Dwarka and Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressways, given that “a large number of Kanwar Yatris will be on the roads for Ganga Jal Jalabhishek on Mahashivratri”, the police said in a post on X.
The post added that the move is to “ensure the safety of devotees and smooth traffic flow”, and is for 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 traveling from 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐡𝐢 𝐭𝐨 Gurgaon 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐑𝐚𝐣𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧, 𝐉𝐡𝐚𝐣𝐣𝐚𝐫, 𝐑𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐢, 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢, 𝐍𝐮𝐡 and 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐝.
The Kanwar Yatra commenced on July 11, which marks the start of the auspicious Sawan month. The main period for the Yatra concludes with Sawan Shivratri on July 23.
The Ghaziabad traffic police in Uttar Pradesh had also issued an advisory for commuters earlier this month, ahead of the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage, with diversions and road closures taking effect from July 11.
Light vehicles have faced some restrictions since July 17, and blockages are being implemented on the Delhi-Meerut Road and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway during the Kanwar Yatra. According to the notice, heavy vehicles, including trucks, buses, trolleys, and tractors, were not allowed on certain routes from the night of July 11 to ensure that pilgrims have safe access to the yatra routes.
Delhi also issued a similar advisory.
Barring city buses or public transport vehicles, heavy vehicles are not allowed on GT Road towards Shahdara and Wazirabad Road. They are being diverted towards NH-9 and will not be allowed to move on Wazirabad Road, GT Road, towards Shahdara and Vikas Marg.

Heavy commercial transport vehicles coming from Shahdara are being diverted towards the Outer Ring Road via Wazirabad Road to take NH-24, instead of using the usual internal routes via Sonia Vihar and Pusta Road, according to the advisory.
Gurgaon traffic police announced restrictions on the movement of slow-moving vehicles on two major highways last month to enhance road safety in high-speed corridors.
Two-wheelers, including motorcycles and scooters, three-wheelers, including e-rickshaws and E-carts, non-motorised vehicles, agricultural tractors, multi-axle hydraulic trailers, and quadricycles are prohibited from using the main lanes of the Delhi-Jaipur Highway or National Highway-48 stretch from the Sirhaul border to Kherki Daula, as well as the Dwarka Expressway from Kherki Daula to the Delhi border.
Instead, drivers are asked to use the designated service lanes to avoid potential accidents.

To enforce compliance, the Gurgaon traffic police warned that offenders will face action under the Motor Vehicles Act. They had conducted awareness interactions at key junctions along these routes to educate the public.
