Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is steadily expanding its 4G coverage across the country. It already has over 42,000 operational sites out of the planned 50,000. Compared to the 2G/3G network offered by BSNL, the 4G network comes with a host of improvements, including high-speed and low-latency wireless internet access, and voice-over LTE (VoLTE) calling support with superior and low-latency calling support.
If you are a BSNL user who makes frequent voice calls, then enabling VoLTE, given there is good 4G coverage, can help improve the call quality. While VoLTE is activated by default for some users, it needs to be manually activated in some cases.
In a 2G or 3G network, during a call, the data will automatically discontinue. However, in a 4G network with VoLTE, the 4G data will remain active even during a call, and when you make a phone call even in a 4G coverage area, if VoLTE is disabled, the network will automatically switch to 3G or 2G, depending on the availability of bandwidth.
To activate VoLTE on your BSNL SIM, you need to send “ACTVOLTE” to 53733. Once the message is successfully sent, VoLTE will be enabled on your phone, and it works on both Android and iOS devices.
How to check if VoLTE has been enabled?
If VoLTE has been activated on your BSNL phone number, you should see the VoLTE icon on the top right corner of your Android smartphone. On iPhones, the same can be verified from the settings menu and also on the top left corner of the quick settings panel.
Considering VoLTE is also available on networks like Airtel, Jio, and Vi, even cross-network audio quality during voice calls will drastically improve, and VoLTE also allows users on some smartphones to make native video calls.
