Ghajini actor Asin tied the knot with Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma in 2016, with whom she shares a seven-year-old daughter, Arin Sharma. In an episode of Figuring Out Co, a podcast hosted by Raj Shamani, the entrepreneur shared an interesting story about how he first met his now-wife. “If somebody asks me where you met your wife, I say, the most romantic place on earth – Dhaka!” he revealed dramatically.
Recalling their first interaction, Sharma shared, “Nothing much, hello, and that’s it. Akshay (Kumar) said there’s a girl who is very similar to you – she comes, just works, and goes back — very professional. Then he gave her number to me, and my number to her, and that’s why we started talking.”

When Shamani asked what motivated the Khiladi actor to do so, Sharma said Akshay must have felt there was something common between him and Asin. “There’s similar values and background,” he opined. “Uska dost hoon, toh agar kuch achha ho jaye life mein (I’m his friend, so if something good happens in my life) – something he can do, that’s his greatest contribution in our life,” he quipped.
Asin and Sharma’s love story is nothing short of a fairytale. Here’s a quick relationship timeline of the lovebirds:
How Asin and Rahul Sharma fell in love
According to a 2015 The Bombay Times report, Asin had flown to Dhaka, Bangladesh, along with Akshay Kumar to shoot a promotional event for their film Housefull 2. On the private jet, Kumar had introduced Asin to his “close friend,” Sharma, and tried to play Cupid between them, urging them to date each other. Brushing off his attempts as another practical joke, Asin just exchanged pleasantries with Sharma and went back to her seat.
However, after the event, she realised the man Kumar was trying to set her up with was not only the guy behind the Micromax Asia Cup 2012, but also the owner of the private jet she had flown in. His “humility and simplicity,” despite being a millionaire, impressed Asin, and they exchanged numbers to stay in touch. During their first meeting, Sharma had wanted to meet her parents and put forward his intentions to marry her. However, Asin asked him for some time to get to know him better, and that’s how they both began dating.
After almost four years of courtship, Sharma proposed to her in the presidential suite of a luxury hotel in Delhi. He had planned an elaborate treasure hunt, at the end of which he knelt to the ground and popped the question. Soon after, they got hitched in January 2016 in a Christian wedding ceremony, followed by a Hindu one near Delhi. They welcomed a baby girl in October of the following year.
