Elizabeth Hurley, known for her iconic role in the early 2000s television series Gossip Girl, has unsurprisingly maintained herself all these years and manages to make heads turn and inspire people even at 60. Sharing why staying healthy is important for her, Hurley recently said that working on a breast cancer campaign taught her that a “woman’s health is absolutely vital”.
“We have to keep our hearts and lungs healthy. We need to eat well and get plenty of rest, and just relax. Doctors say it is one of the most essential things to do,” she said, adding that it’s not always easy. “In fact, it is one of the hardest things to beat stress and stay calm. But it is a very valuable part of our health regime,” she told Us Weekly.
During the interview, she also divulged her well-kept diet, health, and beauty secrets that have helped her stay glowing all this while. Here are the highlights:
Fitness
“I walk every day. I try to get in my 10,000 steps a day, and I do some stretching every day,” she shared. Despite hotels having gyms, she generally doesn’t use them. Talking about her love for exploring new places on foot, Hurley said, “I’ve spent most of my adult life in a hotel room, so I try to bring my gym with me. I keep my running shoes on me, and go out for a walk, and definitely see things out there in a new city.”
Dr Moinuddin, Consultant Internal Medicine at CARE Hospitals, Musheerabad, shared that walking is a low-impact exercise that delivers a plethora of benefits, regardless of age or fitness level. Regular walking aids in weight loss and helps maintain a healthy body weight. It strengthens your heart and improves blood circulation, promoting overall cardiovascular health. In fact, it also contributes to building and maintaining muscle strength, enhancing your physical capabilities.
Breakfast
Simple and to the point, Hurley’s go-to breakfast includes an omelette or an avocado toast with some tomatoes.
Dr Birali Swetha, chief dietician, Gleneagles Aware Hospital, LB Nagar, Hyderabad, told indianexpress.com that an avocado toast and egg has a favourable effect on blood sugar levels, especially compared to high-carb meals. “This combination of ingredients is rich in healthy fats, protein, and fibre, which are key nutrients for maintaining stable blood sugar levels,” she said.

Avocados contain heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and fibre, which slow down digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, preventing rapid spikes in blood sugar. “Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein that has a minimal effect on blood sugar levels and helps with satiety, reducing the likelihood of overeating or craving sugary snacks later,” said Dr Birali.
Skincare
When it comes to her skincare routine, she emphasised on the importance of using a very good moisturiser. “As you get older, your skin becomes even drier. So you have to use a really good moisturiser, more eye cream and more body cream, more elbow cream – everything.”
Dr Akriti Gupta, a cosmetic dermatologist from Jivisha Clinic in New Delhi shared that a well-rounded skincare regimen should contain four steps: washing, exfoliating, moisturising, and sun protection. “It is imperative to enhance your skincare routine and customise each element for your skin type.”
According to her, dehydration can make the skin look dull or dry. Further stating the importance of staying hydrated, Dr Gupta said, “The term hydrate refers to more than just drinking water,” further pointing out other techniques to keep the skin moisturised, which include “limiting alcohol and coffee, and consuming food that contains good fats.”
