A day after the US deported 104 Indians, including 33 people from Haryana, two of the state’s residents, including a deportee, Thursday lodged a police complaint against the travel agents who had allegedly sent them to America illegally.
The Karnal police lodged two First Information Reports (FIRs) against three travel agents based on the complaint of Shubham, a resident of Kalram village, and Sumit Singh from Bassi.
Singh lodged his complaint against Karnal resident Pradeep Rana alleging that he had promised to send him to the US after charging Rs 40 lakh. Accusing Rana of cheating, Singh said while he was sent to the US through the “donkey route”, the travel agent had told him he would be sent abroad “through genuine means”.
“Rana sent me to the US through a donkey route in August 2024. I was facilitated to jump a US wall from Mexico on January 25 this year. However, the American police arrested me and I was deported back on Wednesday,” Singh said in his police complaint.
“I took Rs 8 lakh from our relatives to give the same to Rana. To pay the rest of the money, we offered him 1.5 acres of land, and an agreement was also made for the same,” he added.
On his complaint, the police have booked the travel agent under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust apart from the provisions of the Immigration Act.
Shubham lodged the police complaint against Rocky, a resident of Punjab’s Jalandhar, and his associate for promising to send his brother Aakash, a matriculate, to the US by charging Rs 42.5 lakh. In the police complaint, Shubham said the payment was made to the travel agent. “When my brother Aakash entered the US on January 26 this year, the American police arrested him and put him in a detention camp. He was deported back to Amritsar airport on Wednesday,” Shubham told the police.
