The Shimla police has lodged an FIR against unknown persons for theft, forgery, public mischief and criminal conspiracy for leaking information and documents from the CID department.
When contacted, CID director general SR Ojha declined to comment, but said that the matter is now under the preview of district police Shimla.
However, Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said that there is no such matter. Officials were tight-lipped about the nature of internal inquiry pertaining to which the confidential documents were leaked.
On a complaint by SP Crime (CID) Rajesh Kumar on February 11 with the Chotta Shimla police station, an FIR has been registered under Section 59 (public servant to conceal crime which is to be prevent), 60 (individual voluntarily conceal plans to commits offence), 61 (criminal conspiracy), 305 (e) (theft of a government property), 336 (4) (forgery with an intent to harm someone’s reputation) and 353 (2) (circulating statements containing false information) of the BNS, 2023.
The SP in his complaint said it has come to notice that confidential information and documents from the CID department have been unlawfully leaked and are being misused to tarnish the reputation of both the CID and the state government.
An internal inquiry was conducted in some case and it was suspected/revealed that certain CID staff in connivance with others, unlawfully accessed, copied and with ulterior motive circulated the documents, the complaint said.
The documents were widely disseminated across electronic, print and social media at both the state and national levels. This vested interest of the persons involved is a clear threat to malign the reputation of CID and government at large, the complaint said.

The development comes around three months after a controversy broke out over a CID investigation to find out how eatables meant for the CM was served to his security staff during a government function at the agency’s headquarters in Shimla on October 21.
Later, Ojha had clarified that no action was taken against anyone and the investigation was an internal matter.
