The ongoing tiff between singer-rapper AP Dhillon and Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh took centre stage during Dhillon’s Chandigarh concert. Dhillon cheekily asked the Hass Hass singer to unblock him on Instagram, a comment that came days after Diljit extended warm wishes to Dhillon and fellow singer Karan Aujla at his Indore concert.
During the Indore leg of his Dil-Luminati India Tour, Diljit congratulated the two artistes, saying, “Mere aur do bhaiyon ne tour shuru kiya hai Karan Aujla aur AP Dhillon nein, unke liye bhi best of luck (Two of my brothers, Karan Aujla and AP Dhillon, have started their tour; best of luck to them too).”
AP Dhillon, however, seemed to hint at an underlying tension. Addressing the audience in Chandigarh, he remarked, “I just want to say one small thing, brother. First, unblock me on Instagram and then talk to me [to Diljit Dosanjh]. I don’t want to talk about what marketing is happening but first unblock me. I’ve been working for three years. Have you ever seen me in any controversy?”
Diljit Dosanjh responded swiftly on Instagram, denying any animosity. Writing in Punjabi, he stated, “I never blocked you. Mere pange sarkaaran naal ho sakde aa….kalaakaran naal ni (My issues could be with the government…not with the artistes).”
This exchange comes against the backdrop of Diljit Dosanjh’s tumultuous relationship with state authorities during his ongoing tour. In Telangana, he was issued a notice prohibiting the performance of songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence at his concert. Similarly, the organisers of his Chandigarh concert got a notice for breaching noise limits. At the December 14 Chandigarh event, Diljit also voiced frustration with India’s concert infrastructure, declaring that he would not perform in the country again unless proper facilities are ensured.
Meanwhile, AP Dhillon wrapped up The Brownprint Tour in Chandigarh on December 21. He also performed in New Delhi and Mumbai.
