Protests erupted in Imphal Saturday night following reports of alleged detention of a member of the Meitei outfit Arambai Tengol by security forces.
Sources said the Arambai Tengol leader, identified as Kanan Singh, was reportedly detained from the Kwakeithel area Saturday evening.
Protestors torched tyres and blocked roads in different parts of Imphal city including the Tiddim road, Uripok in Imphal West district, demanding the immediate Singh’s release.
Confrontations between security forces and protestors were also reported at the Kwakeithel area, leaving many protestors injured.
