The BJP government is planning to organise a global investment summit for the first time in Delhi in October, Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Wednesday.
The summit was one of the key announcements made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in her 2025-26 Budget speech. “Delhi has immense opportunities for various types of investments, especially in IT, banking, tourism, data storage, electronics, etc. To take advantage of this opportunity, an investment summit has been planned this year, which will be held every two years thereafter,” she had said.
“The aim is to develop around 1,200-acre of land in Delhi… to establish new industrial areas. The BJP government’s aim is to develop the land and create more than one lakh jobs… build industrial units related to information technology, artificial intelligence, electronics, and research, among others,” Sirsa told The Indian Express.
He added that the government plans to develop the industrial areas in Baprola, Rani Khera and Kanjhawala. While industrial units will come up at Rani Khera across 147 acres, it will be 137 acres in Baprola and 920 acres in Kanjhawala.
Maintaining that the government is exploring the possibility of developing these areas as part of the public-private partnership mode, Sirsa said: “Request for Proposal to hire a global agency for developing these three industrial areas has been initiated. The Request for Quote will be ready in the next two months. The selected agency will organise the investment summit and rope in investors.”
Officials said the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has approved a proposal to develop the three industrial zones, said officials. They added that the previous AAP government had proposed to develop an industrial hub, electronic city, and IT park, among others, on the three areas through DSIIDC, but the project did not take off.
