Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has issued a public notice cautioning students seeking admission against fraudulent text messages. These messages, according to a statement from the university, claim to offer admission opportunities outside of regular due process. The university clarified that it does not use WhatsApp or similar platforms for sharing official communication regarding admissions.
The advisory follows reports of candidates receiving unsolicited text messages containing false promises of admission and unverified links or URLs prompting users, candidates to click on them. The university has urged all to refrain from engaging with such messages, which may be part of fraudulent schemes operated by unknown parties.
Meanwhile, the university has begun the registration process for admission to undergraduate programmes for the 2025 academic year. Candidates who have qualified the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2025 can apply through the official websites at bhu.ac.in or bhucuet.samarth.edu.in, till July 31.
BHU has informed that official admission-related messages are sent only through the following email addresses: admission.help@bhu.ac.in and admission@bhu.ac.in. These communications are directed to the email IDs provided by candidates during their application process and are also updated on the student portal.
The university emphasised that it does not send admission confirmations or updates via WhatsApp or any unofficial platforms. Candidates have been advised to rely exclusively on the BHU student portal and email communications for authentic updates on admission status.
In its notice, the university instructed students to regularly check their registered email accounts and the official admission page of BHU for updates.
