Auto driver held for ‘murdering sex worker over unpaid loan’

An autorickshaw driver allegedly murdered a 40-year-old sex worker for not returning the money she had taken as a loan from him. Police have arrested the autorickshaw driver identified as Nitin Chandrakant Pandit (51), a resident of Dhayari.

A first information report (FIR) was lodged against him at Nanded City Police Station on Thursday. Police said the victim woman was also a resident of Dhayari area and she knew the accused as he often dropped her off at the red light area in Budhwar Peth in his autorickshaw.

The woman had allegedly taken about a Rs 40,000 loan from him. However, she allegedly did not pay the money back. When he allegedly demanded his money from the woman, she avoided him, which led to a financial dispute between them.

Police said around 4 pm on June 4, the accused went to her house in Dhayari area and asked her to return his money. As the quarrel escalated, he allegedly strangled her with a piece of cloth.

After allegedly committing the murder, he surrendered himself at Nanded City Police Station. Police inspector Gurudatta More, the investigation officer of this case said, the accused autorickshaw driver was arrested under section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Thursday.

He was produced before a court in Pune on Friday. The court remanded him to police custody till June 9 for further investigation.
