Delhi: Man killed after truck hits scooter; truck driver on the run

A 23-year-old man was killed in a road accident on Monday morning after a speeding truck hit a scooter near Machchi Market Road in the Sultanpuri area of Outer Delhi.

The pillion rider, identified by the police as Kalam, a resident of Aman Vihar and a worker in a local shoe factory, died on the spot after coming under the wheels of the truck. The scooter rider, 40-year-old Mussabir Hussain, also from Aman Vihar, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after treatment.

The incident occurred around 11.30 am when the police received a PCR call reporting the collision. A team from the Sultanpuri police station, including the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), rushed to the scene and shifted both victims to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri. While Hussain survived, Kalam was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

According to the police, the impact of the crash caused Kalam to fall off the scooter and come under the rear wheels of the truck. By the time help arrived, the truck driver had already fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle, said police.

Police reached the scene shortly after and found the truck and scooter in a damaged condition. The mobile crime team was called in to document the accident site through photography and videography. Forensic evidence is being collected as part of the probe.

“Based on eyewitness statements, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the truck at the spot. Further investigation is being carried out and efforts are being made to apprehend the truck driver,” said a senior police officer.
