Social media influencer Urfi Javed has shared a video on her Instagram account documenting the process of dissolving her lip fillers, which she thought were misplaced and did not make her look any better. In it she mentioned all the guardrails needed for corrective cosmetic procedures as hers had been botched up.
She captioned the reel saying, “No this is not a filter, I decided to get my fillers dissolved as they were very misplaced. I will get them again but naturally. I’m not saying no to fillers at all. Dissolving is painful. Also it’s very very important you go to a good doctor for fillers, all these doctors with fancy clinics know nothing.”
“The swollen lip video is only half the story of a job that had gone bad and reinforces myths of pain and bruising rather than facts. But lip fillers are safe when done by a skilled dermatologist. They know exactly how much of the filler to put and can do so in a relatively painless manner. Even filler extraction is not as painful as shown in the video. So what are lip fillers?
Lip fillers are injectable molecules of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, which can absorb water. This helps plump up the lips and give them volume, shape and definition.
How are lip fillers dissolved?
A dissolving lip filler is a safe and effective option. We use an enzyme substance called hyaluronidase, which breaks down the hyaluronic acid present in the lip filler. This can be painful for sensitive areas like the lip. However, it can be minimised by the injection technique and skill of the doctor.
Should you follow a protocol before dissolving your lip filler?
Do it a week prior to any major event that you may want to attend. Disclose your complete medical history, infection, autoimmune diseases and herpes. Stay hydrated. If you are on blood thinners, stop them three days before.

You may have to avoid medications or supplements that may increase bleeding and interfere with your healing, like aspirin. Stop smoking too. Your dermatologist will check if you are allergic to the hyaluronidase injections through a patch test and even keep a crash cart ready should there be an allergic reaction.
There is some pain on the site after the procedure, so an ice pack or a numbing cream is applied. Do watch out for complications like extreme redness, pallor or whitening of the area, severe pain, cold sensation, any bleeding. Your dermatologist can address that immediately.
Once the procedure is done, you cannot go in for facials or peels for a week. Do not massage the treated area, don’t touch it either. Stay away from vigorous exercise, steam and sauna for three days.
Do all lip fillers dissolve?
Hyaluronic-based fillers are the most common type of filler and can dissolve easily. However, if your filler contains silicone or other substances, you can’t dissolve it.

Once dissolved, it is excreted through your liver and kidneys.
How much time does dissolution take?
The entire treatment to dissolve your lip filler may take between 10 and 15 minutes in a session. Swelling, bruising, tenderness are common and go away in a few days. You may be recommended some medication for them. Your lips will eventually decrease in volume and return to their appearance as they were before your filler.
