A picnic turned tragic for a 20-year-old man in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh as he drowned while trying to retrieve his slipper from a river Saturday. The incident occurred at Parewa Khoh, a popular local picnic destination, and the moments leading up to his fall into the water current were caught on camera.
The victim was identified as Ayush. He visited the picnic spot with five of his friends, according to a report in India Today. According to eyewitnesses, one of his slippers accidentally fell into the river and floated. Ayush used a wooden stick and cautiously entered the strong current to recover it. However, as the slipper drifted further in the strong current, he moved deeper into the river and lost his footing, the report said. It added that his friends and onlookers made efforts to rescue him, but failed.
In the viral video, he can be seen struggling to retrieve one of his slippers floating in water. He uses a wooden stick; however, the slipper is carried away by the strong current.

“20-year-old Ayush had gone to the picnic spot, Parewa Khoh, with five of his friends. He slipped and got swept away in the river,” India Today quoted a police officer, Pooja Choukse, as saying. A search and rescue operation was launched, and Ayush’s body was recovered the following day, the report added.
A similar incident occurred last week, where a 14-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in the Kamvari River in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi on July 13. The incident unfolded when the boy entered the river to retrieve his slippers. According to reports, the boy’s friends fled and did not inform his family.
On the same day, a 24-year-old man drowned in the Phansad dam, Murud, while he was out on a picnic with 11 others. According to a Times of India report, the man’s body was retrieved by three divers from a depth of 38 feet in water.
