4 men arrested on charges of gangrape, robbery in Bengaluru

Four men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly breaking into a house in Bengaluru, gang-raping a woman, and robbing the residence after forcing the residents to transfer money to an online gaming application.

According to the police, the incident took place in the late hours of Monday, and investigations revealed that the key accused was known to the house owner.

The police said the house owner had invited the woman to his house, and the prime accused, who was his friend, unaware of the latter’s criminal intentions.

“The key accused arrived with three accomplices and allegedly barged into the house. They threatened the house owner and the woman, physically assaulted them, and the gang of four raped the woman. They subsequently demanded money transfers to an online gaming application. The woman was forced to transfer Rs 12,000, while the house owner transferred Rs 8,000,” a police officer said.

They hired a mini-goods vehicle and looted household items, including a television, refrigerator, washing machine, and two mobile phones, and fled the scene. The accused warned both victims not to approach the police.

Despite the threats, the house owner filed a complaint on Monday night. Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, the police arrested the men, who are blue-collar workers in the city.
