In the coming weeks, Google Maps is set to introduce an eco-friendly route option in Gurgaon that will enable drivers to choose routes that minimise fuel consumption, show the shortest paths, highlight parking spots and indicate speed limits.

In a bid to streamline traffic management and reduce congestion in Gurgaon, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan held a meeting with Google officials on Wednesday. The primary objective was to regulate vehicle speed limits and address the issue of traffic jams in the district.

DCP Mohan informed the Google team about updating Google Maps with the designated speed limits for various roads in Gurugram, in collaboration with relevant departments. Additionally, features like nearby hospitals, parking areas, and speed limits will also be integrated into Google Maps to maximise benefits for drivers, a police statement said.

While the traffic police have initiated correspondence with the departments concerned to promptly install speed limit signboards on all roads in the district, motorists will soon be required to adhere to the speed limits displayed on Google Maps while driving on Gurgaon’s roads.

“The collaboration between Gurugram Traffic Police and Google is expected to mitigate financial and physical losses faced by the public during road travel,” a city police spokesperson said.
