A day after a family filed a complaint against a social media user for allegedly using abusive language against a woman while commenting on a video of their wedding party arriving in a helicopter, the Bharuch local Crime Branch arrested a 53-year-old man for alleged sexual harassment and insulting the modesty of a woman.

The accused, Piyushgiri alias Lalbhai Goswami, a resident of Kheda district, was booked under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 75(1)(4) (making sexually coloured remarks), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) as well as Sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, besides the Information Technology Act in an FIR lodged by the Bharuch Cyber Crime police station.

The arrest on Saturday comes after the family of the bride, accompanied by tribal leader Mahesh Vasava, submitted a memorandum to the District Collector and a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police in Bharuch.

It was alleged that Goswami had allegedly abused the sister of the bride by passing lewd comments on the viral video of the helicopter wedding procession.

On February 16, Ajay Vasava from Kharchi village in Jhagadia taluka of Bharuch district had brought his wedding procession to Nikora village in Bharuch taluka in a helicopter and took his bride, Vaishali, back to his village in the same chopper.

The video of the groom’s entry in a helicopter as well as the photos with his bride after the wedding, against the backdrop of the helicopter, went viral on social media.
