Veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee, known for her candid opinions, recently reflected on her time working with Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. She hinted at how Bachchan’s immense hard work for success led to a change in his persona once he became a superstar. She also spoke about Khanna being an egoist but also reflected how it came from his immense stardom. Moushumi, who starred in several films of the 70s, and was last seen with Bachchan in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku, shared her thoughts during an interaction with Anandabazar Patrika.

‘Amitabh Bachchan didn’t become big for better’

Moushumi spoke about Amitabh Bachchan’s dedication and hard work, recalling that he was a quiet and focused individual. However, she also remarked on how success had a significant impact on him. “Amitabh Bachchan struggled a lot and became big after a lot of hard work. But I won’t say he became big for the better. When you receive so much, you behave very differently. You won’t even think about helping others,” she said.

She further shared insights into his behaviour on set, describing how Amitabh kept to himself. “His brother Ajitabh used to arrange for a car which would pick up Bachchan from the sets. He used to be a very quiet person, sit alone, and have lunch with the hairdresser,” Moushumi said.

Earlier this year, Moushumi also subtly took a jibe at Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh’s wife. At an event, Moushumi walked past the photographers and then turned back to say with a smile, “I am a much better person than Jaya Bachchan.” She continued to pose for the photographers before adding, “Agar aap log nahi hote toh humara kya hota (What would have happened to us if you guys were not there?).” Moushumi’s jibe was in reference to Jaya Bachchan rebuking paparazzi often for taking her photos.

Moushumi Chatterjee has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in several iconic films, including Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Benaam, Hum Kaun Hai?, Manzil, and others.

‘Rajesh Khanna was an egoist’

Moshumi also spoke about her Anurag and Prem Bandhan co-star and said, Rajesh was an egoistical man. “During our time, one hero who was an egoist was Rajesh Khanna. And rightfully so. He gave so many hits. How can he stay away from success getting into his head?” she said.
